Go Retro: 12 Tips for a Happy Marriage

Just read an interesting article on WebMD about using "retro" concepts for a happy marriage/relationship. Holding hands? Dressing up? Who do they think we are? lol. I kind of liked these ideas and may consider using some. Try to inject some retro into your relationship tonight!

Busy with "The Sims 3"

I have to admit I am also a SIMS junky. I've been playing since version 1 and have collected numerous expansion packs. I am currently loving my Sims 3 Ambitions and been making my Sims firewomen, stylists, private investigators and interior designers. I have to admit I've been sim-ing it up a lot lately and haven't been posting as much due to my lil addiction. lol. Here is some eye candy to entice you to consider your own simworld. Ciao!

MAC MSF Petticoat Blush makes my heart happy and turns me into a HUGE BLUSH FAN.

Petticoat, Petticoat, Bakers men.
Bake me a Blush MAC fast as you can.
Roll the brush tap it with me,
Swipe it on your cheek for baby and me.

Thank you MAC for putting blush back on my radar this week with MSF Stereo Rose and Petticoat. So soft, so smooth, so gorgeous. Stereo Rose wowed me a few days ago and now Petticoat is making my day. These blushes are so friggin gorg I barely want to wear any other makeup.

I really have turned my cheek in the past to blush, never a huge fan--more of a bronzer gal. But this summer I have rethought this idea.  Blush can turn a bare face into to a polished, refined look. It can make you look like you've been up to something naughty or like you just left the beach. It can make you look young and fresh, sexy and flustered or shy and coquettish. NARS has always been my fave with Orgasm and Deep throat, but they never took center stage on my face. MAC's Mineralize skin finish's have changed my opinion of blush completely and that it can make a whole look. Wearing blush as your centerpiece makes your look effortless, like a casual beauty who always looks this good. Like your beauty comes from within plus it really makes you glow. My non stop beauty routine has been tinted moisturizer, mascara, blush. That is all I've been wearing this summer and I look put together every day and like I'm not trying to hard. With this routine there really is no fuss or any touch ups required. Blush typically lasts on your cheeks for hours unless your are very oily skinned.

MAC MSF's in Petticoat and Stereo Rose are amazing. They are soft baked, finely milled and nice pigmentation. They have beautiful colors mixed in with the veining, last for hours and blend like a dream. You can apply several layers and rarely look over done. You get a ton of product for $28 which is not cheap but in my opinion worth it. They are never splotchy and fade evenly over the course of a day. These colors show up well on my NC25 skin tone and will work for all seasons. Petticoat works well with more makeup looks but Stereo Rose is stunning on its own.

Give blush another shot and you might be flushed with excitement.

Living Proof's No Frizz "Hold Flexible Hairspray" is all flex and no hold.

I don't know if its just me but I typically expect a hairspray to hold my hairstyle whether straight or curly for a few hours and keep it relatively frizz free. This hairspray really does..neither. I can be very picky with certain products--especially hair products--and get easily frustrated with my frizzballs. I have been let down by a lot of frizz fighting products and this can be added to the list. Enough bashing, now time for reviewing.

It is a very sheer spray, you can hardly tell your spraying anything on to your hair. It has a light scent, a mix of chemicals and citrus but it does not linger. I found it hard to tell I had sprayed my hair so I did 2 more light layers. It held my hair straight for about an hour or two. I entered a hot night club and my hair started to curl, bunch up and ultimately frizz out. Ack! what went wrong! I had so much hope for this. I tried it again with straight hair and blast it wavved out a few hours later with some frizziles. Sigh. Back to Sephora it goes. Dang nab it it was expensive too! $24 yikes. I think I maybe confused by the "strategy" of this particular hairspray and have included the brand's definition of the product. I still give this a low score despite the possible confusion of "type of hairspray" because it gave me frizzies, changed my straight hair to weird bunchy bizarro waves and did not hold anything in place.

1/2 lipstick out of 5 lipsticks.

"Traditional hairsprays were developed for cementing elaborate, fussy styles like the beehive and bouffant into place, but resulted in a stiff, sticky, shellacked effect. Hold Flexible Hairspray is a reinvention of traditional hairspray, it provides complete control, but with a uniquely flexible, non-flaking hold.

Our scientists created a new blend of polymers that form a flexible web holding the strands together, but never freezing them in place. Additionally, PolyfluoroEster technology blocks humidity so hair doesn't become limp or frizzy. With Hold, hair retains its style, shape, and incredible shine."

Lets sit down for some Web Therapy with Lisa Kudrow

I randomly came across a web series called "Web Therapy" on http://www.lstudio.com/ and loved it. It stars Lisa Kudrow as a self absorbed therapist who does 3 minute therapy sessions via webcam because she simply cannot stand being bored by patients 50 min sessions about feelings and dreams. It is wickedly funny to see Kudrow (mostly) improvise these sessions and prod at her patients and sometimes tell them "I have an immediate disliking for you". She manages to say these things eloquently and professionally. I love watching this and seeing Kudrow make such a terrible condescending therapist likable and respectable. She gets a lot of funny and decent actors that you may recognize as well (Jane lynch is awesome). It is interesting to see Lisa put herself out there and come up with such funny responses. I also love it because some day I want to be a therapist too, lol.

Current Addictions of the week...

Another round of my current "addictions". Happy July to everyone! Hope your summer is going well, mine is just dandy. Fun in the sun, at work and with bf, friends and family. Had a lovely day off and visited a local Baker Square with Grams and Mom. By the way, Bake Square is very underrated! Moving on...

Stereo Rose is heating up my July!

The highly anticipated MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Stereo Rose made its way into my hands this week and I can't put it down. I had to put my detective skills at work to be able to find this baby! I am definitely pleased with this, its a glowing coral blusher with bronze and champagne veining. It glides on like a soft coral-pink and really gives a pretty glow. I do find it hard to mix with more dramatic eye looks, it needs to be paired with very specific colors to look its best. I've been rocking it with a natural face of foundation and tons o' mascara for a pretty day look. I am not thrilled I paid $28 for this but it should last a lifetime. This is definitely a cult fave that EVERYONE was dying to get their hands on, selling out in hours and disappearing off the earth the same day. If you can get it, grab it, but don't go selling your house for it. I am seriously wanting to get the MSF in Petticoat but haven't braced myself for another $30. Probably be grabbing that one soon as I love the raspberry pink flush it lends.

One thing I would like to give me a nice pink flush is my crush Eminem. Eminem's album "Recovery" has been wowing me this week after doing more detective work to obtain it after all my stores sold out. I am a BIG Marshall Mathers fan from way back..about 6th grade. I was dying to go to his concert but my 12 yr old self wasn't allowed to go. Well I've gotten over that and bought most of his albums, but alas not the last 2 cd's as I felt...uninspired to do so. I am glad I waited because this album is gangster. I really like each song and love his lyrics. Not as much women killing and much more soul bearing. I was hooked at the first song! I highly suggest this one if your a fan, or a fan of hip hop in general. Rarely is a rapper so...honest. Its awesome.

"So I picked myself up off the ground, and fucking swam before I drowned
Hit my bottom so hard I bounced twice, advice this time around
It's different, them last 2 albums didn't count
Encore I was on drugs, Relapse I was flushing 'em out
I've come to make it up to you, now no more fucking around
I got something to prove to fans cause I feel like I let 'em down
So please accept my apology, I finally feel like I'm back to normal
I feel like me again, let me formally re-introduce myself
To you for those of you who don't know
The new me's back to the old me, and homie I don't show no
Signs of slowin' up oh and I'm blowing up all over
My life is no longer a movie, but the show ain't over
I'm back with a vengeance homie."

--"Talkin' to Myself"  By Marshall Mathers.

I opened myself up to a new deodorant this week and had a very dry and delightful smelling week! I tried Secret Clinical Strength Deodorant and was amazed with how bomb it was! I was hesitant because my underarms are very sensitive and picky but this one made the grade! No white marks--a revolution--write it down! No smell, no greasy feel and it absorbed super quick. I'm not sure if this is one I will use everyday of my life as it may be drying but for my hot summer days I'm keeping it! Its also super expensive for deodorant...friggin 8 bucks! I bought the $2 travel size to try it and was hooked. Keep me dry and pleasant smelling for like 2 days?  Umm yeah sign me up!

I am currently entrenched in "Eat Pray Love" By Melissa Gilbert. I just started it but can't wait to get into it more. I've heard great things about it and the story sounds fascinating and inspiring. It should be exciting to see Julia play out the movie as well. Very excited to read this book and see the movie!

Laura Mercier Metallic Eye Colour in Gold has been on my eyes a lot recently. Its a grayish gold metallic color that really makes green eyes pop. I dab a little of this on and I'm ready for work! Its simple, its easy and fast. Glide it on with a finger and wash your hands--done. I also have this in Burnished Copper for more dramatic looks that are truly beautiful.

On the search for silicone free hair products to make my No Frizz Living Proof products happy I found Tresemme Naturals Moisture Conditioner. $5 for a liter size of decent conditioner is a good deal to me! The conditioner was lightweight yet hydrating, made my hair look and feel nice. No silicone, natural ingredients with avocado and Aloe Vera is music to these ears. It does have a light smell and conditions well, awesome poetry Jess! lol. Overall a decent product! They also make it in a volume formula and shampoos as well. It is "certifiably" made with some organic natural ingredients and keeps this Junky happy and a little bit more green! Rock on!

Have a lovely week!

Living Proof's No Frizz line is no BS.

Hot, muggy, humid, gross, heavy water infused air is trying to ruin my summer with full on frizzies. I shuffled through the typical frizz superheroes of silicone serums, mousses, gels and hardcore hairsprays but was being beaten by a landslide of muggy MN weather. So I decided to try this one more time. I have tried this a few times with mixed results, it worked well but I wasn't 100% impressed and hated the bug spray stench. So I grabbed it and gave it a go again and viola! No frizz. Imagine that. lol. The smell is still a little off putting but the results are worth it. My hair has no frizz and is smooth and straight. Mid day same results and end of the evening still no frizz! This is the best my hair has looked in a hot muggy summer in ages! I spray about 20 sprays for my long mane, which is a LOT but you need to coat all the hair. I'm a product junky so 20 sprays isn't too unnatural for me. It is expensive! $14 for a baby bottle of 2 ounces, I plan on going back for the big boy, $35 for 6.7 ounces. Holy mackarel!

You have to admit that No Frizz sparked a hair revolution by creating new frizz fighting technology. Hip Hip Hooray for a new way to combat frizzballs! I'm so SICK of SILICONE'S and their lame attempts at keeping me de-frizz a fied. Serums typically weigh down my fine, straight hair and makes me look like the original Grease-r Danny Zuko. All that for minimal frizz defense that only fails again when you step out into humidity? UGH. Can you tell I'm frustrated? lol.

Thank goodness for an alternative! So a little science lesson follows: Living proof uses a special molecule, Polyfuoroester to coat the hair so it does not react to humidity in the air and everyday friction. Sounds genius right? Well I gotta hand it to them, they came up with a new solution to frizz and used top scientists form MIT to help deliver. Now there is a very particular way to use the product so investigate on their website www.livingproof.com to see how-to's. From what I've read you want to spray the hair evenly and thoroughly, the number of sprays depends on your hair length. Definitely follow this instruction otherwise it won't perform as well. You also cannot use silicone products with it--it counteracts it or "curdles it" in their words. So check your shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner for silicone, silica or dimethicone. Most frizz fighting shampoos and conditioners do have this so switch back to shampoo for normal hair--haha we can have normal hair! Check the label because a TON of conditioners have dimethicone in it, surprise surprise. Living Proof's No Frizz comes in many different formulas--sprays, creams and treatments. They are all based on your hair type--fine to medium, medium to coarse and thick to coarse. You also have the option of using Straight making and Wave/ Curl shaping. I personally use Wave Styling Spray for Fine to Medium hair and am very pleased because I bounce between straight hair and wavy hair.  I am not sure I will use it in the winter due to the air being dryer then the Sahara, I still dislike the smell, limited accessibility and the ridic prices. No Frizz ain't perfect, some days unbeknown to me it just doesn't work?!! I think it could be that silicone creeps into every hair product that wants to go on my head. I will slowly work out the kinks and enjoy some stellar hair days along the way.  So check it out if "fuzzhead" used to be your nickname too. I will definitely be keeping this around as my summer staple! Fuzzhead no more! Hazaah!

4 1/2 out of 5 lipsticks!

Living Proof did come out with a hairspray this summer and I am dying to try it. Hopefully will review this soon enough!

Pretzel M&M's are ridiculously addicting!

Have you tried these yet? OMG go to the store right now! These are sooo dang yummy I can't contain myself! Sweet on the outside, salty and crunchy on the inside! This is the best of both worlds--salty and sweet. I've bought several bags. A few weeks ago a co-worker whipped these out and we have all been addicted ever since. I even went to 2 Targets and they were 100% sold out! I've never seen CANDY sell out! Bizarre. Calorie count isn't too bad either, bur once you pop one you gotta have more. I highly suggest getting some!

Lindsay says "f you'' to judge in a very discreet way. No, pretty obvious way actually!

How classy! Lindsay Lohan appeared in court with the love note "F you" to the judge on her middle finger. Everyone's favorite misfit was sentenced to 90 days in jail and her manicure ain't helping her case! I am so surprised she would go to court with those nails! Especially with so much riding on it! Maybe for fun" f you" on your nails might be humorous? Guess I don't get it. But wear it to court and to proudly display the nails to the court by this pose? She's not even hiding her hands under the table like "oh shoot" this might look bad.  How about wearing a sandwich board sign that says "f you judge" when she walks in to court? or a screen printed t shirt? She says "It had nothing to do w/court.. it's an airbrush design from a stencil", and tweeted to a friend "Didn't we do our nails as a joke with our friend?" Come on girl, don't act dumb. To me this says self sabotage. She looks razzled with her coarse poorly kept hair and not so fresh face. If I were in charge I would pull her hair back with loose curls falling out, a luminous foundation, perky cream blush, soft pink lips and light on the eyes. Any other nails would have been okay--hell even black would look better. I'd put her in a clean ironed white blouse, looser black dress pants and some understated jewelry and pop a cardi on top. I wish I could wave my wand all the way to LA and help out little Lilo. I wish someone would.

I personally have actually liked LiLo and thought she was a decent actress...in Parent Trap and Mean Girls. It is so sad to see her decline into the bowels of Hollywood and barely scrape by. I always thought she was beautiful with her luscious red mane, freckles dancing across her cheek, admirable athletic build and mischievous glint in her eye. Now LL is a walking leather handbag with a fake dry coif and bone thin frame far from sexy. Remember that little red head girl? Good actress with all that potential? Well here is a good lesson kids...just say not to blow, cigarettes, fake bake and whatever else drugs she is on. 24 year old Lindsay does not look or act like a typical 24 yr old, her face has weathered so much in just a few short years, to me her skin makes her look like shes in her 40s and worshiped the sun everyday of her life.

You can tell her skin has lost that "healthy" quality to it. It looks sallow, dry, rough, blotchy and even..dirty. Get her a facial stat! Her skin issues are probably the smallest of her issues currently as Lindsay needs serious help and some long term treatment. It has been widely reported LL is hours late for interviews if not across the coast during planned appearances, complained about at movie sets, difficult to work with and stealing other peoples belongings. She is almost broke and has been in and out of rehab several times already. I wonder when she will hit rock bottom and realize she deserves a better life? I understand drinking and doing a little bit of experimentation when your young but she appears to be a full blown addict. I wonder if she will ever get better? Very sad to think of it that way. I think bottom line she needs to go to a rehab facility and start to take care of herself, get sleep, do yoga, have some zen time. She needs new friends that don't do drugs and to create a support system that won't enable this behavior. If Britney can do it, why can't she?

Anyways we all know she was sentenced to 90 days in jails but due to overcrowding will probably do 25% of her time and get off with less then a month.  I don't know your thoughts but think I maybe this will work as a wake-up call for her, it seemed to for Paris Hilton, eh? She still has time to turn her life around and god I hope she does. Not for us but for the little redhead girl who thought she could do anything in life.
